    Jerome Smith is a well-known and respected pharmaceutical entrepreneur with a proven track record for building successful businesses. He has unrivalled relationships at all levels of the healthcare value chain and has brought together a team of skilled professionals to form Forrester Pharma and Lamar International. Jerome is a lifelong pharmaceutical man and founder of Medpro Pharmaceutica in 1993, which later became known as Cipla Medpro. One of the first South African generic pharmaceutical companies was formed through strategically aligning his company with Cipla India. Under his leadership he led Cipla Medpro to South Africa’s third largest pharmaceutical company by value. Through organic growth the company expanded from two employees and a humble beginning in 1993 to an organization of 720 employees in 18 years. Jerome Smith’s vision was instrumental in introducing South Africa to Indian Pharmaceutical expertise. Through this collaboration many more patients can now be supported in their fight against diseases such as HIV, TB, Malaria and many others which would previously have been a death sentence. He established a reputation for successful product launches and swift generic entries. Led by his vision to broaden access to care, he successfully fought 13 patent cases against large multinational pharmaceutical companies. In December 2005 Cipla Medpro was sold to Enaleni Pharmaceuticals Ltd for US$ 265 million and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Jerome Smith was reappointed as Group CEO. In July 2013, in the biggest investment to date by an Indian company in South Africa, Cipla India acquired 100% of Cipla Medpro for US$ 500 million. Jerome Smith left Cipla Medpro in September 2012 and pursued a new venture – Forrester Pharma and Lamar International which are independent and privately owned start-up companies.
